The Twelve Days of Christmas (Our version)

During this season of reflection (and an endless supply of Christmas music constantly playing), we have collaborated in a light hearted list of our Acme version of the Twelve Days of Christmas.

On the first day of Christmas our callers gave to us:  A barbie doll Christmas tree
2:  broken staplers
3:  Stinky Crawls
4:  Forgot your comings
5:  Tyler's big black eye
6:  I'll pay you laters
7:  I want Gamble
8:  Phones a ringing
9:  Chances only
10:  Billie's razzing
11:  Lindsay's whining
12:  Marshall's stranded

We had fun creating our warped version and found it difficult to narrow down to only 12 days.  And as side notes: our barbie doll tree is oozing with awesomeness and Marshall is no longer stranded in New York.  Yea!
Happy Holidays from the Acme family to yours

Roasted Pineapple & Habanero Dip

If you are looking for something new to try this holiday season I have a suggestion for something easy, a little different and a bit spicy.  Stop by Richard's Whole Foods and pick up a jar of Robert Rothschild Farm all natural gourmet dip.  The Roasted Pineapple & Habanero Dip mixed with  cream cheese and served on crackers is a fun and interesting combination.  Give it a try...hope you enjoy it.

HOLA!

Happy Cinco De Mayo Day !
Doing anything special to celebrate?  Bradenton is having a Cinco De Mayo celebration downtown by the waterfront tonight.  They will have all the fun fixin's...food, beer and music.  As much as we would like to go, we will be at home tonight instead, celebrating with our home-made tacos.  Yum.
We recently stopped by a new place. From the outside we weren't quite sure what to expect.  It appeared to be a Hispanic grocery store and bakery.  We decided to experiment and go inside to check it out.  Walking in the doors of the bakery we were met with the best bakery smell you could ever imagine.  The place was buzzin' with people and the racks were loaded with breads, donuts, cookies, flans and other yummy things.  All the goodies were huge-most as big as your hand and you could watch as they pulled the pans out of the ovens.  We walked out with a large sack full of things that we still can't pronounce and didn't spend a lot of money.  We enjoyed sampling each baked good and will definitely be going back again. If you live in the Bradenton area stop by Acapulco Tropical sometime. The grocery store located next door is an interesting place too.  The store is packed full and includes a deli and prepared food area. We haven't ate there, but after reading the reviews, might have to try it out.

Taco Soup

We tried a new recipe lately that our family really enjoyed.  Several people have asked us to share the recipe so here it is.  It is for TACO SOUP.  I know...at first it may not sound all that pleasing, but if you love tacos like Gamble and I do, then it is atleast worth a try.  I made a few slight revisions but the original recipee can be seen at Sparkpeople.com.  It is very simple and doesn't take long to throw together.

Ingredients
1 Lb. lean ground beef
1 1/2 cups yellow onion, chopped
1 packet of seasoning mix OR  3 Tbl chilli powder, 1 tsp red pepper flakes, 1 tsp cumin
4-6 cloves of garlic pressed or minced
3 oz. Goya Sofrito tomato cooking base (Mexican tomato paste)
10 oz. Rotel diced tomatoes with green chillies (hot) -do not drain
16 oz can of kidney beans, dark, drained
1 cup water (adjust to preference)
1 cup frozen corn
1 med. size hot pepper (jalepeno or type of your choice depending on amount of heat preferred)-diced -or- 4 oz canned green chilies
1/2 cup garbanzo beans (from can)-smashed or mushed in food processor
Toppings for garnish (fresh cilantro, cheese, sour cream & chips)

Directions
Brown ground beef and 1 cup of chopped onion over medium heat in a heavy soup pot, stirring occasionally. Drain mixture and blot away excess grease.  Add spices and garlic and cook for 1 minute.  Add Goya tomato paste and cook additional minute while stirring.  Add diced tomatoes, kidney beans and water.  Simmer for 10 minutes. Add green chilies (reserving some for garnish), mashed garbanzo beans then corn. Simmer additional 10-15 minutes.  More water may be added to thin the soup or add more smashed garbanzo beans to thicken.

Garnish  with chopped cilantro, jalepeno pepper, remaining 1/2 cup of onion, cheese, sour cream and chips.

Hope you enjoy it!

It's about damn time!

Kudos to our dad (Bob Tetzlaff) who has retired from the Belleville, Ill. Post Office after 45 years on the job.  The local news paper interviewed him and you can read the article here.
We have been teasing him for years that he will still be working when we are all old enough to retire.  I guess he had to prove us wrong.  LOL.
Since we live in Florida we missed his retirement party, but I'm sure everyone had a great time.
We are happy for him and wish him a relaxing, healthy and fun retirement with a very short honey-do list.
PS...It's about damn time Daddy!!!

Heavy Hearts

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to Tyler, Marshall and the entire Ferguson family.  They have lost their mother this weekend after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).  ALS is one of those very unfair diseases.  The brothers are employed by Acme and specialize in Whole Home No-Tent treatments.  We are very proud of these two wonderful young men and the courage they have each shown during this extremely hard time in their lives.

Borrow or buy?

You know all that stuff packed away in your garage, attic, shed and closet.  That thing, and those boxes of du-dads and all the other stuff that you just absolutely had to have...that now sits unused, dusty and forgotten about.  Well here is an idea for you...
A guest writer for Almost Frugal offers an interesting enhanced version of freecycle (which I have previously blogged about). Read the article here about borrowme.com.  Among the long list of available items that are available to borrow, rent or buy from people in your area, you may find a wheelborrow, canoe, camping equipment, pet carriers, music, DVD's, wedding dress, baby needs, tools, bicycle or my favorite funny find "Ten stupid things women do to mess up their lives" book.  You can even create a wish list of things you are hoping to find.
So now you can loan or give out your unneeded items to someone who could use them or rent out your unused things-and make a little cash...maybe to spend on your next big "I gotta have!" item.

The Smell Of Love Is In The Air

Oh...wait a minute maybe that is the smell of chocolate.  Yep it is!
Whether you love it or hate it...Valentines Day is on its way.  If your day is going to include some chocolate (whether from your special someone or you buy it yourself) we hope you enjoy it while keeping this in mind.
Your special treats can be harmful to your furry friends.  Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats and must be kept out of their reach. Enjoy your day while keeping them safe.

Just Do It!

How often do you try to accomplish something? Perhaps weight loss, exercising more, getting organized, spending more time with the kids/pets, nixing the smoking habit, saving more/spending less or something business related?  Do you ever give up and walk away from the new idea saying "well at least I tried?"
I believe it is important to try new things and not avoid starting a new project or diet just because you don't want to fail. ....but here is an interesting perspective... Dr. Steven Gundry (a wellness team expert for Jillian Michaels) has made a very interesting point in his post..about Not trying.  He is discussing his ideas on becoming healthy/losing weight BUT his point could be applied to anything in your life even your business.

Want to know what it is? Check it out here!

Planning or Dreaming?

A Goal Without A Plan Is Just A Dream
(unknown author..but it says a lot)

So...are you planning or just dreaming?

If you own your own business or are thinking about it, I highly recommend a quick visit to HappyLife by Zu-Li. As a business owner myself, I took her advise and made a business 2010 goal list of 10....which spilled over to more like 14. (lol) But it felt good to get it down on paper and begin the change from dreams to planned out goals.

One goal for this year on my list is to blog more (surprise, surprise, right??). If that is on your list too, you should check out this article about 100+ blogging ideas posted by Lisa Barone.

Whose running the show?

Welcome to 2010! We hope every one's new year has started off great.
Are you still getting used to writing 2010 on all your paperwork or are you one of those people that will continue to absentmindedly write 2009 for the next 6 months on every check you write? I came across a great article from dollar stretcher.com about setting and achieving goals. (Perhaps the first one should be to remember that it is now 2010...lol).

Do you find yourself sitting around waiting for life to happen to you or are you planning, setting goals and heading towards the things you want to achieve in life? Whether your goals include family, financial, getting organized, traveling or millions of other ideas, a vision board may help you reach them. Need a little help getting started? Check this out: Setting Goals, Goal Setting, Achieving Goals
